Where To Eat In Jeffrey’s Bay

I am back in my favourite beach town, this time during the coldest part of winter in the middle of a global pandemic. Sounds like a terrible idea right? Thankfully I’m now fully vaccinated, its the first time I’ve left the house in months, and I never go anywhere unmasked. Most importantly, after three disastrous attempts to eat at restaurants in Cape Town during the last year I have officially given up eating out till this virus is officially obliterated from this planet.

But that doesn’t mean a girl can’t order in right?

There are several restaurants in Jeffrey’s Bay I always return to. In fact, some of the food is so good these eateries often become my first stop. Here are some of my must-visits, even during adverse conditions.

My new book comes out next month! And it’s set in my favourite place in the whole world – Jeffreys Bay, in the Eastern Cape. The Wild Child and I visit as many times as we can manage. Our current record is four road trips in one year.

We recently snuck away for an unplanned holiday in February. I was taking a much-needed break and he had some leave days available, so we thought, why not?

A birthday to remember in Hermanus

The last few weeks have been fairly anxious ones with big changes causing all sorts of disarray in my life. My birthday fell smack-bang in the middle of it all and I was really worried the occasion was going to be undone by stress.

Road tripping in the Eastern Cape

Spending sixteen hours in a car is a grueling prospect. It’s the equivalent of a long-haul flight, except with icky petrol station bathroom breaks instead of having to clamber over the sleeping passenger in the (way too small) seat next to you.

But with enough scenic stops and an epic destination in mind, a long car journey is just the thing.

Taking it slow on Route 62

Working full time is tough. Not only do I have less time to write fiction, it also means getting up super early every day to the same alarm tone, sitting in traffic, and working long hours that often eats into my personal time. The next thing I know, there’s three or four hours left to make dinner, shower, catch the latest episode of something and then its bedtime.

Free nights and weekends become a game of Roulette. Is the dice going to land on writing, spending time with friends, catching up on chores or taking work home yet again? It can wear you down.

A long weekend away is the perfect antidote.
